The Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology was created in 2010 through the combined gifts of $25-million from the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation and $52.5-million from the Government of Alberta.

Mission
Through leadership in scientific excellence and international collaboration, the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology will invest in virology research to discover new methods to prevent, treat and cure virus-related disease to reduce the burden of viral disease around the world.
Overview
The Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology (LKSIoV) unites a consortium of researchers to support discoveries in vaccines, treatments, and diagnostic tests for viral diseases affecting humans. The Institute builds on internationally recognized virology expertise and infrastructure with global connections to such partners as the US National Institutes of Health, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and more.
